OUR MOJO SET FRONT COVERS

SEX PISTOLS AND PINK FLOYD

Green Question : What are the the codes and conventions of music magazine covers? Are these on the MOJO cover?

The codes and conventions of music magazine covers are usually the masthead being at the top of the magazine cover as well as giving information of other artists to entice the reader to continue reading the magazine. The contrast in colours within MOJO magazines front covers are usually very vibrant for example in the sex pistols we see a very bold background which could suggest neutrality and in the pink Floyd front cover we see a spectrum of colours which could suggest equality and stereotypical views from the 1960's.

Blue Question : How does the choice (selection and exclusion) of elements influence meaning on the magazine cover?

The choice of elements influencing meaning on the magazine cover shows that MOJO has a wide contrast in gender equality as well as multiculturalism, we know this because as you begin to read on further into the magazines we see a wide range of contrast of black people, other ethnicities and female dominance(not a lot but some). However on the pink floyd cover we can see that there is no  multiculturalism however is a woman called Pattie Smith

Orange Question : Analyse image of the featured ArtistMastheadMaincoverlinecover linesSellinglines.Look at the colour used, facial expression, clothing, font, camera angle, eye contact. What does it suggest? Does it relate to the genre?

Within the main image of the Sex Pistols front cover of MOJO magazine we see the masthead is always the same size and font swell as colour in each magazine to show that even if a magazine they make is somewhat stereotypical, they are still the same MOJO Magazine. The main image of the article is staring directly at you to show equality but also uniqueness as what the clothes he is wearing. contrasts the colour of his hair which can also suggest that there is a good sense of modernisation and expression of being unique. The cover lines also attract a specific target audience as what the cover lines include are directly targeted at a certain age group and gender E.G Young female teens. Pink Floyd also contains similar colours schemes however is a spectrum almost like a rainbow to represent the swinging 60's and the colours can represent uniqueness due to the amount of different colours actually in the front cover.

Red Question : What is the language used on the front cover?

The language used on the front cover of The Sex Pistols is very casual and relaxed in the sense of no sophisticated language is typically used for example on the front cover one of the cover lines is "Trump is like a character in one of my songs" which isn't typically very sophisticated however is casual in a sense.

Purple Question : Is there a relationship between technology and media language on the cover?

On the front cover we can see that within one of the cover lines It says about a new character in a song which can possibly lead to an online music video that was made for the song to really be advertised to the public.

Pink Question: Is there intertextuality used to create meaning?

There possibly is as within the front cover for the sex pistols we see a very bright vibrant colour scheme which could also be a reference to other artist which they took inspiration from for example the pink Floyd cover also has bright vibrant colours as well

Red Question : What is the language used on the front cover?
What about the mature language on the Sex Pistol cover - how does this link to the target audience?
And also the slightly more aggressive language on the other cover?

Is there a relationship between technology and media language on the cover?
Don't forget about the website on the spine of the magazine and the CD that comes free.

Pink Question: Is there intertextuality used to create meaning?
Intertextuality is where media texts refer to ANOTHER media text.
